Post subject: AVG Uninstall/Install Problem

I am using Windows XP Home Addition With AVG 6.0. I tried installing
the latest version of AVG 7.?? and get the following error message:

"Local machine: installation failed
Initialization:
Error: Checking of state of the item file avgctrl.dll failed.
File opening failed. %FILE% = "C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG
Free\avgctrl.dll"
Permission denied"

I cannot uninstall the AVG 6.0 version from either the control panel or
by AVG's Uninstall (even in Safe Mode). Both the install and uninstall
fail upon reaching the avgctrl.dll file.

Now I have no AVG virus protection.

Can Anyone Help!

Normally, AVG 7 uninstalls version 6 for you.
But if you want to uninstall version 6 your self, be sure to disable it first. If it is running in
the background, it is not going to let you uninstall it because it is in use.

Hi Richard:

Thanks for your help.

AVG was not in my system tray so I renamed the "Grisoft" directory to
"GrisoftOld."
This time the installation work without interruption.

Richard, most do use ">" quoting markers. Some do use "|" quoting
markers. You use exotic ":" quoting markers. Imagine how irritating are
postings with a mixture of all!

people do for a better overview and reading especially over longer

Peter. My computer came with the : reply option and I just never changed it. But I would not say
the > was the "normal".
But if it make you happy, I have changed to the > option.

Bottom posting may seem logical to some, but to others, I want the answer right up front. Bottom
posting is a pain in the a--.

AVG install problem -

AVG 6 will not uninstall - I Have AVG on two machines. I recently purchased McAfee Viruscan, but it will not install on one of the machines because AVG is resident. AVG is resident because it will not uninstall. I have tried logging in as Administrator (Win 2000), I have tried....

uninstall AVG - I apologise if this has been addressed before - can anyone tell me how I can do a complete uninstall of AVG 7 please. I've used the windows uninstaller but it doesn't get rid of everything and I can't now get Norton AV to install at all. Any help..

Can't Uninstall AVG 7.0 - So I had AVG installed on my slaved hard drive, drive E. Drive E is no more. I am not able to install AVG on drive C because AVG's installer thinks I still have AVG installed on drive E. Nor can I uninstall or repair the installation using AVG's..

Uninstall AVG 7.1 or not? -
